Customer Reviews

iPod 4th gen Nano
My Zune died, so I bought the Nano, after reading the reviews. This super small unit delivers! Sound blows away my old unit, and it drives my headphones with ease (Koss Pro). Playback is excellent, as are the videos. Setup is a breeze with iTunes-8. If you want a very compact, powerful music system, this is it!

Nice Idea; Poor Reliability; Warranty Service Does Not Exist
After three 16GB iPod nanos with none lasting more than a few months (one week, four months, and 2 months), the reliability of this product is unnacceptable. In addition, the Apple warranty service is also unnacceptable. In one case, the small plastic plate that covers the bottom of the nano fell off when I removed the nano from the plug cord. Since this didn't impact the operation of the nano, I kept using it.

But then the nano backlight stopped working so the screen was too dark to see the menu. I returned the nano under warranty but Apple sent it back saying the nano had been opened or altered based on the small plastic plate not being on the nano. When I called Apple, they reiterated that the small plastic plate being off the nano voided the warranty, no exceptions. A Catch 22, even if I had returned the nano under warranty for the plate falling off, the plate falling off voided the warranty.

Another nano was returned for warranty service and Apple sent it back saying that external factors caused failure. Since the nano was used like any other small, electronic device (it wasn't dropped, it wasn't wetted, etc), one can only conclude these things are so fragile that they can't be used.

Luckily, I was able to return the one that lasted only a week to the place of purchase (Sams Club) and they readily exchanged the defective product.

The features of the nano are great but the extremely poor reliability and a warranty service that is not worth the paper it's written on make this product only worth about .00, not 0.00.

GREAT MUSIC DEVICE
This is an ok portable media player. I was amazed by how good the sound quality was, the low price, and the amount of content you can put on it. however the reason I didn't give it 5 stars was 1. the screen size (why they couldn't have made it even just 1/2 inch bigger I don't know). 2. the battery life (music wise it's great, but video drains it quick, I had to buy a portable battery charger that ran on 2 AA batteries cause I was going on a trip). 3. not sure if I got a lemon but mine keeps getting some technical problems (for instance the other day all my podcasts just vanished off of the device, every once in a while it freezes up and I have to hold in the menu and select buttons to get it unfroze, and when I put some songs on it they showed up under the cover art of a different band in cover flow mode). This device is ok overall, but if you want a better device and you have the extra money I'd go for either the iPod Touch (it has a lot more features (like the apps), a way bigger screen, and wi-fi capabilities) or better yet the iPhone (it has all the stuff the iPod touch has plus 3g internet anywhere (so all of your apps work anywhere) it's a phone, and it has a camera so you can take pictures and video).
I hope this review helps you.

Not as great as hoped
The comments about the turn wheel are true, unlike previous editions, this one is not as sensitive. Turning up the volume or down is often difficult. Also, doesn't always advance when I press the >> button. I also had to get it replaced for 'water' damage and the only water it was exposed to was sweat in my hands, luckily this was covered in apple's warranty. Otherwise, i like it but i would not say that it is much of an improvement over earlier editions.

Can't be without it
I've been with iPods ever since they first came out. From the Mini to all of the other Nano generations, I own them all. ;)
This has been by far my favorite of them all and is the most aethestically pleasing to my eye (I'd recommend a case to protect it.)

Pros +
Sleek, stylish, comfortable in my hand.. The aluminum casing looks and feels great. The back click wheel really brings out the beauty in it.
To top it off, the screen? Clear, crisp, rich in color.
All that memory!
Not really in the way at the gym. It's small, very light, and because of its shape.. It's fairly comfortable in my pocket.
All the things in the previous Nanos, just more advanced.. And more colors to choose from.

Cons -
Apple changed the inner workings.. What used to charge your iPods now do not for the new generations and your iPod is always more than happy to tell you that on the screen. For someone who has been with them for years now, it's quite the hassle for all your accessories to suddenly be unable to charge their products.
Genius isn't all that great, but that's something they can always keep working on.
Oh, and battery life?? Wish it was better, still not enough for someone like me - who is always on the move.

Now to address everything else..
Yeah, I don't really use the shake to shuffle - in my opinion, it's a little gimmicky but I do find it useful at times (though not often, it took a little bit to get used to as you have to switch it to hold before you put it anywhere so it doesn't change your song but you could always switch it off.) When you shake to shuffle (which requires quite a shake SOMETIMES,) I find that it doesn't shuffle your current playlist but your whole song library.
Like I said, I don't use it much but I DO like the little games it has now 'cause of it.

Oh, and yes you can turn off the rotate to cover flow. There's an option to turn that off as well so no problem there for me. It's a pretty little addition, though not exactly efficient in my opinion.

Anyway, that's my two cents on it. Great product, all in all.
Should you drop your old Nano for this one? .. Well, I did. A little extra space never hurts, I like to watch movies and videos on it every now and then. Image is clear, yes, the screen is small.. But it IS the Nano. It's SUPPOSED to be. It's the perfect size for me and can even fit in my small jeans and that says a lot.

Great IPod
Love this IPod. We also have the original sized Nano, but this one is so compact and fits in my pocket really well. I love that the screen is large enough to watch video too.

Wounderful
Product is just perfect if your someone that hates to listen to the radio all day in your car. Exactly meet my expectation

The Best, Cheapest mp3 player ever!
This is one of the best products I've ever bought. I have had a sansa before and it SUCKS. The reason apple ipods are top sellers is because they put the best equipment in there. my 4 gb ipod had a 320x240 screen, and an incredible processor. Everything is so smooth. It is great looking at videos and photos, and music is a breeze (love the cover flow feature). All this in the thinnest electronic device I ever bought. My only complaint is when using the shuffle songs feature, I hear a lot of the same songs each time I do it, and it doesnt seem very random. Other than that, it is an incredible device. Go buy it.

Much better than the old one.
I love this new ipod. I got it about a year ago and i listen to it every day. I love hip-hop and rap music and i have allot so i needed all of the room this has. It stores exellent videos and pictures. Even for a 4 gig it has allot of room. I have a over 1 hour video, music video, and over 400 songs and i still have about a fourth of the room left. The things that i do not care for is the key pad it sticks and the shape of it is not as handy as the new one and the old one. One thing i hate about it is that it freezes quite frequently and then u have to wait untill it runs out to charge it again. I love the new big square screen and u can see the album artwork muc better. U can also veiw the name of the song and the artist on the menu. It has much better games and fun games that u can buy for it. I also love the search menu that allows u to search for any song or artist that is on the ipod. My favorite game is i quiz, it quizes u over ur music, music in general,ur movies and other movies in general. This is a great ipod.

Great product
I think that this is a very good product. Even though it is a bit more expensive then some of the other media players I think it is worth the price. The only thing I wish that was on it is radio but that is still just a small problem for what a great product this is.

Make a statement (downsize!) while having it all.
After letting my first iPod sit unused for 5 years, I've become a collector, going from a 160 Classic, to a Touch, to this single gig pint-sized dynamo. To think that just a few years ago a whole gig was unthinkable even in a plain storage drive and now is considered "limited" is not exactly my idea of progress, but nonetheless it speaks well of a "Shuffler" as a conservative, conservationist-minded citizen (Apple is even donating proceeds from their red version to fighting AIDS in Africa). And when you consider that this player is equal in cost to two retail-priced CDs, you've got to admit that having the capacity to carry 250 tunes in this thimble-weighted, matchbook-cover sized, practically invisible music-maker is quite a feat.

Still, one has to be somewhat suspicious, especially of the motives of the manufacturer with respect to the successor of the Shuffle 2nd generation. The 3rd generation may be the size and weight of a single chewing-gum wrapper, but it's also much easier to misplace or lose (I'm on my 4th cell phone for that reason). And Apple has the price set at a point likely to encourage the consumer to immediately purchase a replacement. I wish Amazon or Apple would at least throw in a coupon for ten or more free downloads.

I do miss a couple of features, such as the alarm clock, and the ability to call up specific songs, but this is a player for listeners who aren't fussy about things like song titles, artists, composers, dates, and personnel (downloads are way overpriced compared to CDs for this reason).

As for the audio, I don't know about the ear buds, but it frankly sounds extraordinary when plugged into my Tivoli radio--crisp, detailed, smooth, enriched compared to the previous source. I don't know how Apple does it, but they've certainly caused a revolution in the way we listen to music. I'm just hoping that the cloned generic charger I'm using doesn't fry the insides.

Quick excellent service
Excellent service. Arrived on time. Worked perfectly. Couldn't ask for anything else.

IPod Shuffle
I am really pleased with how this product works while I am running. However, the instructions for charging are not correct. The light flashes orange while charging, but does not turn green (as the booklet tells you) when the charge is complete. I thought there was something wrong with it at first. I think it's a great buy for the money.

Great tool
A great little tool. I bought it for language learning. I can upload the specific lessons I want to study. The only drawback is that the order of the lessons is shuffled. Nonetheless, it is a very handy devise.

Great Ipod!
Great item! It holds just enough songs for me. I am amazed at how small it is.

iPod 4th gen Nano
