Find Your Music Faster
It's even easier to find the song you want to hear. Now you can view your album art in Cover Flow. Or just press and hold the Center button to browse by album or artist. When you find the right song, press the Center button to add it to your on-the-go playlist.
Rock and Roll Over
Tilt or turn iPod nano on its side, and you'll listen, watch, and play in new ways. You can flip through your album art with Cover Flow. Or, vertically speaking, see more albums and artists on the screen at one time.
Shake Your Groove Thing
Sometimes, we could all use a little unpredictability. And now you can shake to change your music. Just give iPod nano a shake, and it shuffles to a different song in your music library. You'll always be surprised by what you'll hear.
Let the Games Begin
Now you can get in on games made especially for iPod nano and the accelerometer. They respond to the way you move, so they're immersive, addictive, and a blast. The iPod nano comes with Maze, which lets you work your way through vast mazes by tilting and moving. You can find even more games on the iTunes Store.

Pull hundreds of photos from your pocket and share them wherever you go. Hold iPod nano upright and see your photos in portrait view. Turn the player on its side to see them in landscape. Your photos look beautiful in their proper aspect ratio on the vibrant, 320-by-240-resolution display.

iPod 4th gen Nano
My Zune died, so I bought the Nano, after reading the reviews. This super small unit delivers! Sound blows away my old unit, and it drives my headphones with ease (Koss Pro). Playback is excellent, as are the videos. Setup is a breeze with iTunes-8. If you want a very compact, powerful music system, this is it!

Nice Idea; Poor Reliability; Warranty Service Does Not Exist
After three 16GB iPod nanos with none lasting more than a few months (one week, four months, and 2 months), the reliability of this product is unnacceptable. In addition, the Apple warranty service is also unnacceptable. In one case, the small plastic plate that covers the bottom of the nano fell off when I removed the nano from the plug cord. Since this didn't impact the operation of the nano, I kept using it.
But then the nano backlight stopped working so the screen was too dark to see the menu. I returned the nano under warranty but Apple sent it back saying the nano had been opened or altered based on the small plastic plate not being on the nano. When I called Apple, they reiterated that the small plastic plate being off the nano voided the warranty, no exceptions. A Catch 22, even if I had returned the nano under warranty for the plate falling off, the plate falling off voided the warranty.
Another nano was returned for warranty service and Apple sent it back saying that external factors caused failure. Since the nano was used like any other small, electronic device (it wasn't dropped, it wasn't wetted, etc), one can only conclude these things are so fragile that they can't be used.
Luckily, I was able to return the one that lasted only a week to the place of purchase (Sams Club) and they readily exchanged the defective product.
The features of the nano are great but the extremely poor reliability and a warranty service that is not worth the paper it's written on make this product only worth about .00, not 0.00.

GREAT MUSIC DEVICE
This is an ok portable media player. I was amazed by how good the sound quality was, the low price, and the amount of content you can put on it. however the reason I didn't give it 5 stars was 1. the screen size (why they couldn't have made it even just 1/2 inch bigger I don't know). 2. the battery life (music wise it's great, but video drains it quick, I had to buy a portable battery charger that ran on 2 AA batteries cause I was going on a trip). 3. not sure if I got a lemon but mine keeps getting some technical problems (for instance the other day all my podcasts just vanished off of the device, every once in a while it freezes up and I have to hold in the menu and select buttons to get it unfroze, and when I put some songs on it they showed up under the cover art of a different band in cover flow mode). This device is ok overall, but if you want a better device and you have the extra money I'd go for either the iPod Touch (it has a lot more features (like the apps), a way bigger screen, and wi-fi capabilities) or better yet the iPhone (it has all the stuff the iPod touch has plus 3g internet anywhere (so all of your apps work anywhere) it's a phone, and it has a camera so you can take pictures and video).
I hope this review helps you.

Not as great as hoped
The comments about the turn wheel are true, unlike previous editions, this one is not as sensitive. Turning up the volume or down is often difficult. Also, doesn't always advance when I press the >> button. I also had to get it replaced for 'water' damage and the only water it was exposed to was sweat in my hands, luckily this was covered in apple's warranty. Otherwise, i like it but i would not say that it is much of an improvement over earlier editions.

Can't be without it
I've been with iPods ever since they first came out. From the Mini to all of the other Nano generations, I own them all. ;)
This has been by far my favorite of them all and is the most aethestically pleasing to my eye (I'd recommend a case to protect it.)
Pros +
Sleek, stylish, comfortable in my hand.. The aluminum casing looks and feels great. The back click wheel really brings out the beauty in it.
To top it off, the screen? Clear, crisp, rich in color.
All that memory!
Not really in the way at the gym. It's small, very light, and because of its shape.. It's fairly comfortable in my pocket.
All the things in the previous Nanos, just more advanced.. And more colors to choose from.
Cons -
Apple changed the inner workings.. What used to charge your iPods now do not for the new generations and your iPod is always more than happy to tell you that on the screen. For someone who has been with them for years now, it's quite the hassle for all your accessories to suddenly be unable to charge their products.
Genius isn't all that great, but that's something they can always keep working on.
Oh, and battery life?? Wish it was better, still not enough for someone like me - who is always on the move.
Now to address everything else..
Yeah, I don't really use the shake to shuffle - in my opinion, it's a little gimmicky but I do find it useful at times (though not often, it took a little bit to get used to as you have to switch it to hold before you put it anywhere so it doesn't change your song but you could always switch it off.) When you shake to shuffle (which requires quite a shake SOMETIMES,) I find that it doesn't shuffle your current playlist but your whole song library.
Like I said, I don't use it much but I DO like the little games it has now 'cause of it.
Oh, and yes you can turn off the rotate to cover flow. There's an option to turn that off as well so no problem there for me. It's a pretty little addition, though not exactly efficient in my opinion.
Anyway, that's my two cents on it. Great product, all in all.
Should you drop your old Nano for this one? .. Well, I did. A little extra space never hurts, I like to watch movies and videos on it every now and then. Image is clear, yes, the screen is small.. But it IS the Nano. It's SUPPOSED to be. It's the perfect size for me and can even fit in my small jeans and that says a lot.
